Carolina’s Paintings at Gov’t Center Through Aug. 15

We interrupt this Maya series for a special note: Carolina’s paintings are now hanging at the Santa Cruz County government center, 701 Ocean Street, in the first floor corridor opposite the elevator bank.

The display, part of a regular Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County exhibit, will be up through Aug. 15. A First Friday reception with Carolina and the other artists now showing at the county building – Marie Gabrielle, Erika Gakovich, Timothy Lygate, and Susan Trimingham - will be held Aug. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The work at the left, Zunil Rainbow No. 1, is the first she has completed

since returning from a visit to Guatemala this spring.

Among the paintings Carolina is showing is Zunil Rainbow No. 1, the first work she has completed after returning from a seven-week stay in the Guatemalan altiplano, during which she visited twenty Mayan villages where spectacular weavings and other artwork were on display at weekly open-air markets.

She is now working on more paintings derived from this trip for the Open Studios show October 6-7 and 20-21.

We now return you to the regularly scheduled blog entries about the Guatemala trip. Still to come: Chichicastenango.
